In Love with my In Laws

** This week has been crazy at work playing catch up but I PROMISE to start recaps this weekend once I have time to upload all my pictures. In fact I'm suppose to get my pro pictures today on DVD!!!! To say I'm excited would be the understatement of the year.

What I wanted to talk about first are my new in-laws. I've mentioned before how much I love Kristian's family but after the wedding I have to say I absolutely adore them even more. And I'm not just talking about his immediate family but all of his aunts/uncles and cousins. I've met most of them in the past during the holidays but there were a few that I met for the first time at the wedding who live far away. As expected they were equally as nice and welcoming as everyone else.

Last night we went to his parents house to help celebrate his/our niece's 14th birthday. It was the first time seeing his parents since the honeymoon and his sister and her kids since the wedding. Everyone kept referring to me as Mrs. P..... and his dad kept hugging me and calling me his daughter in law. It was very sweet.

We watched a slideshow of all the honeymoon pictures while listening to our wedding CD favor...sidenote-his parents said they've received so many compliments on the CD and the choice of songs. In addition to eating birthday cake we also decided to go ahead and cut into the top tier of our wedding cake which his mother initially planned to freeze until our one year anniversary. I'm not really sure who came up with that tradition but the thought of eating year old frozen cake kinda grosses me out so we decided to just eat it now. And it's delish.

I'm so fortunate to have such a wonderful new extended family. I really did hit the In Law lottery. I've heard so many horror stories of people hating their in-laws but as of now things are great and I just hope it continues.

Aw, so glad you get along with your inlaws. I do too and it feels great! Also, I don't think we'll wait to eat the cake either :)

It does help to have good inlaws and, if the inlaws aren't perfect, it helps to have a husband who will take your side. That's an important factor. Most of the communication between my inlaws and me happen through Rob which helps a lot.

We did wait to eat our top tier after the one-year. Once we took off the nasty decorations (forgot to take off the flowers before boxing and freezing), the cake/filling itself actually tasted super good.

All the pictures so far look amazing, can't wait to see more!

I, too, have pretty much hit the in-law lottery. I love Mr Fix It's family so much. At the wedding, his dad, Pops, came over and hugged me and my daughter and said "Welcome to the family. I love you girls so much and we are so lucky to have you as part of our family now." It was truly adorable and I loved it!

I am so glad that you are lovin' your new extended family :)

Like you, we also were over the saving the cake thing. We had a ton of our cake leftover because it was WAY bigger than it needed to be so we brought a huge layer home with us and had a lot of the family eating it the day after the wedding at our little 'day after lunch' hang out. It was so yummy. Smart girl to enjoy it now...it's much more savory when you can take the time to enjoy the taste and not worry about whether or not you are going to have it smashed in your face while cutting the first piece! :)

I'm jealous of your relationship with your inlaws. Don't get me wrong, mine are great, but they have a pretty hands-off relationship with us. Most of the times it's great, no body needs a MIL who's always up in their business, but sometimes I think my husband would like them to show more interest in our lives.

Yay, that's so exciting that you like your inlaws!

I adore my sis in law - we hang out with her all the time. I'm still a little weird around Dustin's dad and stepmom but only because they're kind of quiet and that makes ME quiet. But they're perfectly nice people and I figure it just takes time.
