Weekend Update

Friday night- Had a date night, grabbed some drinks and food at a nearby restaurant/bar and spent much of our time people watching. Woodbridge is great for people watching/shit talking, especially when you have a restaurant full of waitresses that are too large for the skimpy outfits they squeeze themselves into.

Saturday- K was up and out the door at 5:30am to go bow hunting and he actually got his first deer of the season (Sorry Bambi). I’m so proud of my little redneck! I spent the day cleaning and made homemade potato soup (with cheese and bacon) for dinner. Not sure when I became so damn domestic but he really enjoys it! That night we went to my friend Colleen’s house for a small get together. I got to see another one of my sorority sisters whom I haven’t seen in YEARS. It was great catching up with her, however the night turned a bit awkward after my older brother showed up and she drunkenly went back and forth between flirting with him to calling him a manwhore when he didn’t return her flirtations to asking him to accompany her into the bathroom! He politely declined. Overall it was a pretty entertaining evening.

Sunday- Spent the day being lazy and that evening went for our first cake tasting! We went to meet with a very nice woman who works out of her home with her husband. She had a great display and some really nice pictures. We were able to taste 3 flavors including red velvet, yellow cake and chocolate cake. We had the chance to try the buttercream icing vs. the fondant as well. I’m not a huge fan of icing in general and I’ve never enjoyed the taste of fondant (that’s the icing that is super smooth and used for the really fancy designs) however her fondant actually tasted pretty good.

After looking through her books, Kristian was actually the one who picked out the design we’ll probably go with. We picked 3 different flavors, one for each tier, which will be French Vanilla with Strawberry filling, Chocolate with Raspberry filling and Carrot with Cream Cheese filling. The pricing was a bit higher than I expected mainly because we ended up going with the fondant which is more than buttercream but she’s still cheaper than pretty much all of the other bakeries in the area. I also like the idea of helping a small business owner rather than a large bakery that already does a ton of business. We haven’t signed the contract yet but I suspect we’ll go with her.

Mmmmmmmm...cake tasting. One of the best parts of planning a wedding! I went with a tiny little unknown cake shop to and she did a fabulous job. Since then she's blown up. I'm glad I got her when she was cheaper. Ah ha

the sorority sister flirting with brother story cracks me up. the fact that he rejected her and then her calling him a manwhore would make my night. hilarious!

The cake sounds yummy! I never had a cake testing, but my cake was included in my reception fee so beggars can't be choosers. It was fine luckily. I can't wait to see it. I'm sure it'll be really pretty.

Sounds like a busy weekend but entertaining!

Sounds good! Cake tasting is fun. We didn't have a cake test but we had tasted the cupcakes before. We are going for cupcakes instead of a cake =)

Have fun with your planning! Sounds like you are doing well!

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAAA!!!!!!! Sounds SUPER entertaining.

Yum, I want to get engaged so I can go cake tasting! I don't like frosting/icing so much either, but now I want a big fatty piece of cake!
