Maybe it's just gas

Yesterday was my annual visit with the "lady doctor". As always it was a very entertaining visit. First it should be noted that I have gained back all the weight I lost right before the wedding due to stress. It was no surprise since my pants no longer fall off me and I can actually fill out my bras again which makes Kristian happy. However somehow I lost an inch in a year. WTEff! Last year I was allegedly 5'1 now I'm back to 5'0! Guess that means I have to give up on my dream of being America's Next Top Model!

Anyways the hilarity began during the question portion of the exam when once again they first asked me my marital status - Married. Followed by asking me if I'm sexually active - My husband would certainly hope so! Then my favorite question which is how many sexual partners I have- ONE!!!!! Okay I know there are some skanky married chicks that probably have more than one but the question still cracks me up.

During the exam the doctor, knowing I'm recently married, of course asked me about our baby making plans. And since most of my knowledge of baby making comes from watching Teen Mom I did have a few questions. Ummm did you know that some women don't get their period again for up to 6 months after getting off the pill?!?! This was brand new information to me. So basically that would mean having to pretty much take a pregnancy test on a weekly basis to see if you're late because your pregs or because your body is just wonky. Good thing they sell those at the dollar store!

We then somehow transitioned to talking about those nutty women on TLC's "I didn't know I was pregnant" and my doctor said she's had patients like that! One went full term without knowing (obviously she hadn't been to the doctor in those 9 months). Another one found out at 6 months during her annual exam after insisting there was no way she was pregnant. I asked my doctor how on Earth it's possible to not know you're pregnant for 6-9 months. Her response "Denial". Hell, wouldn't you feel the baby kick after a while? Though I suppose they write that off to just being gas. I just don't get it.

Do any of you know someone who went more than 5 months not knowing they were pregnant??

I can't imagine going that long without knowing, though there are some women, like me, who stay on birth control for an extended period of time so that we have fewer periods. I suppose that if the pills failed during that timeframe, and we got pregnant, we might not know right away, though I'm sure there would be other signs, including weight gain. However, if taken correctly, the likelihood of these pills failing is very, very slim.

You know, I would have never guessed that you were 5'1. Being 4'11 (and 3/4), I totally love on my shortys:)

Supposedly my sister's best friend's sister went through that. Had no idea she was pregnant until really late in the game. I have no idea how someone could just miss that.

Sadly yes. My husband has a friend who found out she was pregnant in May...had the baby in July. How one makes it 7 months is beyond me.

I've really never understood how that happens, but I've heard stories too. I won't be going off birth control anytime soon, but that will definitely be an anxious few months trying to figure out whether I'm pregnant or my body just isn't back to normal yet!

I think this is my first post here! :) HI! New follower..

How do you lose an inch in height?! Is that common?!

I agree about the denial on the not knowing you're pregnant.. You KNOW when you are or could be pregnant! Denial is the only way you can explain that. I don't understand though why a woman who is married and has had one or two would be in shock or denial about two or three..?

Also, about going off of BC.. I had my cycle right away and it was irregular (or way too regular for my liking)for 8 months!!! KILL ME. I'm all balanced now but the point is that you could go either way.. many months without it or many months with it every other week..

I was an oops baby and my mom didn't know she was pregnant for her whole first trimester. It was the 80s and my mom liked to...have fun, shall we say (she was 34, so not a child, either.) So for the first 3 months that I was in her belly she continued to...have fun. She said that her periods were always weird so not getting one was pretty normal. I guess she went to the doctor when she started feeling icky and they told her! Crazy, right?

That show is so unbelievable to me. Like...I could understand a few months going by and not being able to figure it out, but like...33 weeks?

I did know the thing about the pill and I was prepared for it when I went off mine a couple months ago, but so far everything has been relatively normal. The first month I did have a freak out though and bought a test. So yeah...thank goodness for the Dollar Store!

you learn something new every day..

I had a friend in HS that was 5 months along before she found out. I hand hung out with her and had no idea either (AND we were at the pool)...major denial!!

I think being petite makes it difficult to not know you're pregnant. As my mom said when I told her I was pregnant, "I thought you looked a little puffy." I found that, after I went off the pill, my body was still trained so I found it easiest right away and it happened within 2-3 months afterwards.

As for shorter, I lost my inch early on and anticipate losing another when I'm old. Not looking forward to that.

Just because someone's had more than 1 sexual partner does not make them a skank.

Just saying.

I have no idea how you could not know. But then I haven't been pregnant before either, so I really don't know. You think the bump would give it away?

@Krysten - I think she was saying that if you're married and have more than one sexual partner - as in cheating on your spouse - you're a skank. :o)
