Wed-cap: Cake Cutting

After we finished with the toasts we went ahead and did the cake cutting. I knew the grandmothers would be getting anxious for this part so that they could head out early. Also, my 6 year old niece/flower girl was having a hard time concentrating on anything BUT that cake. What can I say like aunt like niece.

I really loved our cake. It turned out exactly how I wanted it and it tasted quite yummy too. For my shower my mother gave us our engraved cake cutter and server which was great because I had planned to just buy a cheap one at Michael's. But now I'm glad we have a nice engraved set as a keepsake.

The one thing that surprised me was that I felt like there weren't many people watching us cut the cake. Even our families. Everyone seemed to be off talking or dancing or drinking. I guess the cake cutting isn't the most exciting part of a wedding but I thought at least our parents would be watching and from what I remember they weren't around. I could be mistaken though, as I've said the whole night is a blur now.

*Here we are getting ready to make the first cut. Our photographers had to guide us on where and how to cut it*

*We fed each other nicely. I'm sorry but I just don't get the whole smashing cake in your spouse's face tradition. Why would you want to smash cake in the face of the person you just vowed to spend your life with?? There were several other people there I wouldn't have minded smashing cake in the face of but my husband was not one of them. It just seems rude and tacky. But that's just me. And God knows if I had gotten cake all over my face/dress/hair I would not have been happy. I know this is what makes for excitement for the guests but even as a guest when I've seen it done I just feel uncomfortable.*

*Nom Nom Nom*

*Awww*

Are you pro or anti cake in the face?

Pretty pictures! I told David I would be MAD if he shoved cake in my face. We don't have food fights any other time, why would we start on our wedding day? Really?

*Gah!* Your cake is GORGEOUS!!! It just may have to become one of my inspiration photos! :-)

And I'm right there with ya on the whole cake smashing thing. I've been trying to make D see the light, but he said (and I quote) "well now that I know you don't want me to d it, I'm totally going to." {sigh}

One of my very first recaps was the video of Mr Fix It getting cake on my face to which I responded by smearing it all over his :) Thankfully, none in the hair. I was not happy about it but didn't let it get to me. He had the pressure of his stupid brothers and friends yelling "Face, face, face!" Dummies.

I love your photos. We had a good amount of people watching us cut our cake. At my sister's wedding, it happened so fast my mom was sad she missed their cake cutting. It is kind of random...you never know if the guests will be interested or not.

Our cake was nothing like what I wanted it to look like at all...but it tasted super yummy so I'm not complaining :)

I love your cake, so beautiful!
We didn't have very many guests watch us either, but it really didn't matter to us! At least no one was watching until Ryan put a little piece of cake on my cheek! Then everyone looked at us! I had just a bit of frosting on my cheek (none on my dress or in my hair). I got him really bad though with frosting (which doesn't really matter because it's not like he has make-up or anything!).
We didn't talk about it before, but I didn't mind! If you would've asked me pre-wedding, I would've said absolutely not. But I really liked it, actually. It was pretty fun!

I love your cake! But I'm surprised to hear a lot of people weren't watching. Our DJ had everyone gather around the cake table, and there was no dancing going on during that time. It sounds like you still had a great time, though! And we didn't go for smashing, either. :)

Your cake and knife set is similar to ours but ours isn't engraved. My grandma gave it to us so it's special.

I'm anti cake stuffing. We're civilized people - forks please.

I am anti cake in the face - I didn't want my makeup all messed up!

Your cake is gorgeous! I totally dont get the whole smash cake in the face either as its not something thats done over here at all.

Since we had our dancing after the meal and when our evening guests arrived, we cut the cake just before our first dance which meant that everyone was watching!

Thanks for your lovely comment on my post too; dont think I have ever been compared to royalty before!
