Toxic Womanizing Gold Digger

We booked our DJ a few months back courtesy of my fabulous mother who offered to pay for one after I told her my plan of using our IPOD for music to save money. The DJ company that we are using posted a list of their Top 200 Most Requested Songs of the Past Year. Meaning people actually WANTED to hear these songs.

Well I printed off the list to use as a guide for creating our own Do Not Play list as well as get ideas for other song we do want to incorporate into the wedding. We're still in the process of picking songs for the ceremony, dinner, dancing. We haven't even decided on our first dance song yet but that's another story.

Anyways while looking over the list I was shocked to see some of the songs listed. Songs that have played at WEDDINGS. First let me start by saying that a lot of these songs I like, hell I have most of them on my IPOD...however they are probably not very wedding appropriate. For example-

Britney Spears- 'Womanizer'....ummm I don't think I would be marrying Kristian if he were a womanizer.
Britney Spears- 'Toxic'....again I really don't consider Kristian or our relationship Toxic
Kanye West- 'Gold Digger'... seriously?! How on Earth would this be appropriate to play at a wedding??
Pussycat Dolls- 'Don't Cha Wish your Girlfriend was Hot like me'- No explanation needed on this one.
Nelly Furtado- 'Promiscuous'- Yeah this might give my new in-laws the wrong idea about me
Madonna- 'Like a Prayer'- isn't this the one where she was making out with the black Jesus in the music video??
Katy Perry- 'I kissed a girl'- ummm this song is about two chicks making out 'nuff said

In addition to the inappropriate songs on this list that will NOT be played I am including a pretty extensive list of songs that just personally annoy the shit out of us including-

-Macarena......Hate Hate Hate this song
-The Chicken Dance.....that's a big fat N-O
-The Electric Slide....it's not a 6th grade dance
-Y.M.C.A....I'm basically anti line/choreographed dances
-Anything by the Black Eyed Peas....this is Kristian's request, I don't mind the BEP

There are about 100 other songs that will be making the Do Not Play list but this is just a sampling. Are there any other songs that I definitely SHOULDN'T play at the wedding or rather songs that you think would get the crowd up and dancing??

I was watching something somewhere where they played Golddigger for the wedding party to walk into the reception. I could not believe it. Who plays that at a wedding!?!

I loved planning the music for my wedding. It was one of my favorite things!

Wow....interesting request list for a wedding! At my good friend's wedding someone requested "I'm in Love with a Stripper" and "Stroke it." I think she almost died when they came on.

As for why I haven't told my job...I accepted the position 2 days before finding out I was pregnant. I guess I'm just nervous to tell them since I haven't been here very long.

I know what you mean! Some of the songs people play at weddings don’t really make sense, but I guess they just don’t mind the lyrics. I like your list of don’t plays – no chicken dance for us, either!

what's wrong with the first set of songs? i personally like it. i don't think every song has to pertain to love and marriage. at that point, everyone's drunk and just wants to dance anyway.

the second list...barf! you can also add 'shout' to that. hate when they play it at weddings.

happy friday doll!

I hate synchronized dances so that was on our Do Not Play list, but our DJ played YMCA anyway. Oh, and there was some sort of conga line thing in there. I don't remember, but I know there are photos. The sad thing is that those were the most popular dances. The songs I actually liked and requested had like me and my close friends dancing by ourselves. Sometimes, it's just a generational thing. Our DJ was sketchy though. He wasn't bad, but he was far from good. Like he mispronounced the Rob's brother's name even though he pronounced it correctly for his parents and for us. He also mispronounced 2 members of our wedding party despite asking us correct pronunciations before starting. We weren't big music crazies, but I know people who plan every single note.

Also be clear if you'll accept requests.

This made me laugh. I had contemplated playing Gold Digger toward the end of my reception, but ONLY because one of my friends, and my boyfriend's BEST friend loves this song. She seriously ADORES that song. And it makes me laugh.

I was just in a wedding a few weeks ago. The bride had YMCA on her do not play list too. The DJ SO busted it out. She was livid. Ah ha ha

I have a guilty confession to make: I might be putting "Gold Digger" on my to-play list for my wedding... Sorry SG!

It's just a fun beat, and I love to dance to it!

This might be the most stressful part of my wedding planning, when it comes. I'm huge into music, and it's one of the most important parts of my reception to me: I want to celebrate my marriage with some great music and dancing! It's a party, people!

that ludacris song where the lyrics go something like, "i wanna lick, lick, lick you from your head to your toes..." is probably a song i would recommend NOT playing, too.

If you want a romantic dancing hour, I get why these songs would be big NOS. But if you want your friends to get drunk and throw down? Then these songs are the joints. It's not like the lyrics need to be the soundtrack to your relationship ;)

We also have all of the same DO NOT PLAY participation songs you listed. Don't want them at all. And so silly that they play those type of songs at weddings - so not appropriate. But Mr Fix It definitely loves the song Gold Digger so he would probably request that one ;)

No BEP really?
Oh gosh, I'll pretty much dance to anything at a wedding so I'm probably not the best person to ask about this ;)
