$$$$

I must admit something. I’m addicted to porn.....wedding porn. I can’t help myself, if there is a wedding show on t.v. I must watch it. I watch them all...Bridezilla’s, Platinum Weddings, Say Yes to the Dress, Rich Bride Poor Bride...the list goes on. I’ve always loved these shows even before I got engaged...or met Kristian for that matter. But here’s the thing the closer I get to my own wedding the less interest I have in these shows. Yes I still watch but usually while I’m also surfing the Internet or cleaning. And most of the time I find myself getting irritated while watching them...primarily Platinum Weddings and Say Yes to the Dress whose main premise is to discuss how much money these couples are spending on their wedding/dresses.

This past weekend Platinum Weddings showed a wedding for a couple where the bride’s father spent $1.5 MILLION....a MILLION dollars on the wedding...A WEDDING! That is one day! Are you effin kidding me?! Look I’m sure there are people out there that would look at our budget and how much money we’re spending for one day and say that it’s a waste for a one day event. And maybe they are right. But I can tell you that for the DC area our budget falls on the LOW end of the scale. If you want to get married around here you’ll be spending a minimum of $10K unless you have the wedding in a backyard with pizza and a keg (though at this point that actually sounds like a good idea).

With that said I still can’t imagine spending a MILLION dollars on a wedding...hell I can’t imagine spending $100K on a wedding but maybe that’s because I grew up shopping at Target and Payless. I guess if you’ve always had money this is all you know. It just amazes me that some of these people spend more on their flowers or alcohol than I am spending on my entire wedding. In addition to the money these weddings will have THOUSANDS of flowers (usually flown in from South America or Europe)...what do they do with all these flowers after the wedding? I really hope they donate them to a hospital or a nursing home or maybe a less fortunate couple getting married the next day. It just seems so wasteful. I guess if you have that kind of money to spend more power to you but it's not something I think I could do...even if I won Mega Millions tomorrow.

As for Say Yes to the Dress it cracks me up when these girls go in talking about how because they are on a budget they can ONLY spend $3-5K on a dress! And most of the time the dress is ugly (in my opinion) or looks just like one I saw at David’s Bridal for $700. Then again maybe I’m just jealous and bitter that I can’t afford a $10K Monique Lhuiller gown…but I doubt it.

On a side note... I was watching The Bachelor wedding of Molly and Jason (another million dollar wedding) Monday night...while in the process of printing off my own invitations that I bought for $20 a box at Michael’s... HOLLA. First let me say that I still can’t believe Molly agreed to date Jason 30 seconds after he dumped the fiancé that he proposed to 30 seconds after dumping her in the first place. But that’s neither here nor there I suppose. What killed me was that these idiots got married during a torrential downpour while their poor guests were shivering under umbrellas. It’s called a Rain Plan...Use it! It had only been raining all day why would one think to move it indoors?! Crazy right? Oh and when Jason said how easy the whole planning process had been I wanted to crawl through my t.v. and smack him in the face...yeah when ABC is planning and paying for the whole thing I guess it would be pretty easy. Douche.

Okay I’m stepping down from my soap box now. It feels much better to get that off my chest :-)

**If any of my readers are throwing a million dollar wedding please know I'm not talking about you...oh and please send me an invite to the wedding :)

I watch Say Yes and Platinum, too, and it always makes me feel great about what I’m spending on the wedding! Even after buying two gowns, I still come out spending less than what the girls on Say Yes spend!

I watched all those shows too but once my wedding was over I lost interest. I will still faithfully watch Say Yes to the Dress though. It kills me how they come in with budgets of "only" 3K and the consultants just don't know if they will find anything for that low. Seriously?!?

While I too am addicted to wedding shows as well... I totally see your point... Since when is $4000 cheap for a dress. I especially hate how they seem to get annoyed when brides have a budget! Irritating!

bahaha i love all those shows too! it makes me sick to think about how much money i will spend on my wedding one day..for ONE day..but i know i will do it, because that's just the way things are i guess, unless i were to get married at city hall or something (nothing wrong with that), but that's just not what i want. ramble ramble, i'm done!

If I had a million dollars, I certainly wouldn't be throwing a wedding with it!!!

I can also assure you that the wedding porn addiction doesn't go away after you're married. At least not right away. I still can't get enough!

I am totally addicted to Say Yes to the Dress and was way before we got engaged. I doubt that obsession will stop after the wedding!

I know. I was floored that they didn't move it inside!

I totally know what you mean! To be honest, I never would give sales associates my budget when I was dress shopping, because then they only pick those that are close to the top of your range. The result? My dress was 1/8 what my budget was. HOLLA!

p.s. Kudos on the invitations!

I was the same. I'll watch the shows once in awhile now but nearly as much as I used to (same with baby shows).

Rob was in a wedding that cost $100,000. They spent what we spent on our entire wedding plus honeymoon on flowers alone. It was beautiful. The marriage lasted 2 years total (which meant it was only good for half of that). What a waste.

You're doing a great job planning and organizing your wedding!

Actually i know that if i had a million dollars, hell if i'd spend it on a wedding! Yea, no thank you!

Bwah ah ha ha ha! I didn't see their special, but I really want to.

I'm with you. SOOO glad we didn't spend a boatload. No sense in it.

Completely with ya! I don't even watch platinum weddings but I do love me some wedding shows. I am a say yes to the dress fan but again completely agree that they are spending too much money on ugly dresses. I kind of like Molly and Jason now. I didn't get the whole do it in the rain thing but whatever. Your budget is normal and healthy and wonderful for your special day. Can't wait to see all the pictures!

have you seen the new wedding show on TLC? i don't know what it's called but there are 3 or 4 weddings and the girls all go to each others weddings and rate them? i love that one but i've only seen it once.

i figure after my wedding i'll lose interest in these shows but i just plan to replace them with baby/family shows, i can't wait to start a family ;)

I've been addicted to wedding shows since before I'm engaged. My hubby thinks that now that I'm a wife I should be over it. But I'm totally not.

I also am addicted to all those same tv shows for sure! And I also grew up shopping at Target and Payless (still do shop there) :)

I agree, that as we get closer to the wedding (37 days away!) I don't want to watch them as much anymore. But it's mostly because watching other people plan, purchase and go through the wedding process and wedding day is stressing me out for my own wedding and stuff going on! It's like I need to get wedding stuff off of my brain so I can relax and actually enjoy the process. I have even felt myself getting nervous or anxious watching a bride walk down the aisle on those shows! UGH! I still love them though and usually watch them somewhat regularly.
