Mom fail

I had my first big mom fail. My poor little baby was diagnosed with his first ear infection today. Where was the failing on my part? Well I suspect he's had it for a while now and I didn't know it. He's been digging at and scratching his ears for a couple weeks now and yes I know that is a sign of an ear infection however he didn't have any other signs; no fever, no loss of appetite or pain when eating/swallowing, no extra fussiness (just the normal amount) and since he has eczema, even on his ears I just thought they itched from the dry skin.

Well over the weekend he developed a cough, yesterday he had swollen eyes and last night he screamed whenever I tried to lay him down and didn't even want to nurse (and my kid never turns down a bottle or a boob) so obviously I knew something was wrong. My MIL and I took him in today and the doc looked in his ears and knew immediately that was the problem. So he now has some antibiotics. The doc also finally prescribed some lotion to help with the eczema since everything else we've tried hasn't helped and the poor kid is constantly trying to scratch his face off.

Despite the fact that I'm sure he feels like shit he's actually been in pretty good spirits today which I'm thankful for. And in other good news he now weighs in at a whopping 19lbs14ozs, so basically after his next meal he'll be 20 pounds. Yep he's a porker. Also, the doctor saw him roll from his back to his belly on the table and was surprised and I said he's been doing that for about a month. The doc said that's pretty early and he thinks he'll be an early crawler and walker. Lord help me.
