This past weekend we made our first (of many) larger purchases for the baby and ordered our crib. I realize that we won't need a crib for a while especially since the kid will probably sleep in a 'pack n play' in our bedroom for the first couple months. However, for me it would be hard to decorate the rest of the nursery without knowing what the crib will look like. And I really want as much of the nursery done beforehand as possible. I don't think either of us will have the time or energy to do it after the baby is here.
With that said I went back and forth between wanting a darker wood color or white. I knew I wanted something that could work for either gender, not just because we don't yet know what we're having but hopefully if we have another kid of the opposite sex we can use the same furniture.
After looking at a LOT of cribs online we decided on the below one from Walmart.com.
I just love espresso colored furniture, which shouldn't be a big surprise since that's what we have for our bedroom. I think it works great with both blue/green or pink/purple bedding. It also got really good reviews online and comes with a mattress. We should get it in about a week or so, not that we plan to put it together anytime soon. We still need to figure out what to do with the bed in our guest room/future nursery first.
We still have a LOT more stuff to get but somehow buying a crib makes this even more real and exciting. Now I can't wait to find out what the gender is so that we can start picking out bedding and the rest of the nursery decorations.
I should also mention that I've had a number of friends already offer to let me borrow some of their baby stuff that their kids have outgrown which I know will save us quite a bit of money and we're incredibly grateful. In case you didn't know babies are expensive yo.

so so so so excited!! I will ship off the sleep positioner and baby bjorn soon.
Fun! I went back and forth on the color, I went white. I hate white furniture normally, but I do like it for baby/kid furniture (makes no sense).
How nice that friends are borrowing you baby stuff (we lucked out too). That stuff is Srrrsly so spendy and a)they grow out of it in a matter of months and b) you never know if they will even like it!
I really like the crib you chose - very classic!
Just found your blog and I'm glad I did :)
ahhh its so cute! perfect for boys and girls :) man, i miss having babies little enough to be in cribs!
Pretty! I think the original crib I wanted was similar. We changed at the last minute because it was out of stock forever, but the one we have now doesn't convert to a toddler bed which is the only regret I have about all of our purchases. Still, Ikea rocked with the bed when it came time for one.
I did the nursery in all natural wood and the motif was all in light green or navy blue (and Class Pooh) so most of the expensive stuff can be reused. However, our bouncy chair is pink as well as the tummy time mat, but we have a bouncy chair in navy, too, so are all set if we have a boy (eventually, NOT PREGNANT despite a small bit of baby fever).
I always recommend waiting to buy until you see what others buy you. Plus, you invariably have to return stuff. Also, you don't need half the stuff any list tells you to buy though some gadgets are fun.
My sister/parents are selling/giving away a handful of baby items (but none are for newborns) if you're looking for something. Drop me a message if you want specifics. Random stuff so I'd have to refresh my memory with what is there.
I love that crib - espresso furniture is my favorite too. Definitely can work for boy or girl!
So glad you're getting some gifts from friends - that is awesome. Can't wait to see the rest of the nursery as it comes together!
Great crib! Love the color too!
