Opinions Needed

As I may have mentioned yesterday someone *cough*me*cough* has a birthday coming up *cough*May12*cough* and since I'm apparently an amazing wife Kristian wants to get me a really nice present.

Something I've been wanting for a while now is a nice camera. And as it turns out our current camera has gone to photography heaven and no longer works so unless we buy something else I'm stuck taking all my pictures on my blackberry which is no bueno.

Now I don't need something super fancy, super expensive and that will take me forever to learn how to use properly, I just don't have the patience for that right now. With that said I do want something nicer than the basic point and shoot digital camera like the ones I've had in the past. I just don't think they take that good of pictures.

So here is where you come in Internet friends. Do you have any suggestions of nice cameras that we could look into buying? We really don't want to spend more than $500 if we can help it.

I just recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS10 and I am in LOVE with it. It's the second lumix camera I've purchased--but the new one is a "nicer" one than my old one. It has a lot of auto settings but also gives you room to play around with the shots. I'm still learning (just got it last week) but I'm really impressed with it.

I have two cameras and really like them both... I have a Canon Rebel (definitely a little pricier, but I did find my exact camera on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-XS-Digital-18-55mm-Black/dp/B001CBKJGG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1301683399&sr=1-1) for $508... Mine is the 10 MP not the fancy schmancy new one with video capabilities...) and a Nikon Coolpix (http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-COOLPIX-L24-Digital-Red/dp/B004M8SVAM/ref=dp_ob_title_ce).

I love my little Nikon and love that it is very portable. My Canon takes amazing pictures but like any other DSLR its signifantly bigger and much more awkward. My little Nikon will fit in my purse or Drew's pocket which means that it gets taken with us a lot of times that the Rebel does not! My Nikon is also a little older (I bought it before Drew and I got married which means that its probably 3 1/2 years old) and I have never had any problems with it. Its also an older model and I think that its only 8 or 10 MP where the new ones are 12 or 14. Mine is also black and the new ones come in cool colors (red, blue, purple, etc...)

Anyway, I hope that this helps. I really like both of my cameras and am happy to have them both, but they definitely have times where they are each more appropriate than the other.

GOOD LUCK!

I love my Canon Rebel, I am partially ready to upgrade to a nicer model--but currently, 2 grand is not in the budget for a new camera. Boo.

Good luck finding an awesome camera.

I'm all about Canons, especially for the price point you're looking to spend.
