Yesterday the D.C. area got hit with our biggest snowstorm of the season so far. We had what they were calling "Thunder Snow". It started sleeting around 3pm and full on downpour of snow by 4pm and the roads got bad fast.
My boss let me leave at 3 and Thank God she did because had I left later I could have been one of the many people that ended up with 4 or more hour commutes. Some people were stuck in their cars all night on the side of the road! It took one coworker who left later than I did around 5 hours to get home. People were abandoning their cars and the streets were gridlocked.
My normal 45 minute commute took me 2 hours which at the time was torture but hearing other people's stories I realize how lucky I was. It was a very scary drive and I was practically in tears at one point because the roads were so bad and it was getting hard to see. Thanks to baby Jesus I was finally able to get behind two trucks that were plowing the road and follow them most of the rest of my way home. I hate hate hate driving in snow.
I'm going in late today and I just hope the streets are in better condition than they were last night.

Thank God you made it home. So many of our friends had horror stories, and my sister in law nearly got trapped in her car on the side of the road. Luckily, two kind people dug her out. This is why I hate winter so much. The summer heat can be ugly, but at least it doesn't cause problems like this.
Yikes, stay safe!
Be safe!! I wish we got snow down here at the beach... but all we ended up getting was rain.
Glad yu made it home safe! We had snow like and ice ont eh roads for a week here in GA 2 weeks ago and it was bad! SOunds a lot like you up in DC!
man that is scary stuff!!! i'm terrified to drive in the snow, i would have died! i hope today is a much better drive for you!!
glad you made it home safe! i totally feel for the people who were stuck out there so long. driving on icy roads is the absolute worst, you have no control over your car. so scary!
i hope the roads are better today hun!
Seriously, wasn't it the worst thing ever!! I was livid about my commute until I got home and heard that people were going on hour 5.
we got let out at 3 as well... thank goodness.... I am safe and dry at home today!!
Stay warm!!!!
It was a "Snuricane." That happened in Raleigh about 5 years ago. CRAZY!
Duuuuude it was crazy yesterday! I left at 3:30 and was one of the lucky ones. My typical 25-30 min commute only took about an hour. But I know if I'd left any later I would have had one HELL of a drive home. So glad you made it home safe and sound!!
So happy you made it home safe and sound! Even though it seems like it snows here in WI every day, usually it's just a dusting. I'm not looking forward to the inevitable next big storm.
Geez...and I wouldn't leave my house because it was 30 degrees out. Sounds awful, glad you're safe.
i don't know how you east coasters do it! i could never drive, let along, LIVE in snow like that!
be careful please!!!
and happy weekend!!!!
Wow, that weather sounds horrible. I am glad to hear you made it home safely. I'll be sure to stay down South in the winter because all that sleet and such does not sound enjoyable.
